MoMoCo Members
I have been trying to see if something more organized was
going to happen, but it is apparent as of right now that social networking will
have to be the way to stop this bill. If you are not aware of what is happening
the state is trying to repeal an exemption for a tax on the sale of software
(and yes the definition is broad enough to affect SaaS businesses as well), it
is a very significant taxation on most of your businesses in a down economy. At
the very least you should be informed on the situation. This bill is being fast
tracked by Governor Ritter as of today into committee for a vote and if passed
it will be implemented as of March 1st. Colorado has a group called
the Colorado Technology Association who is working on behalf of the Colorado
businesses to stop this effort. Below is the link to their website so you can
learn more about how to act.
While we are all in this economic downfall together and need
to balance the budget at the state level, this tax will put Colorado at a disadvantage
to other states in the technology sector. I am afraid in the end this could
affect companies and entrepreneurs from starting companies and opening offices
in the state.
Since this committee is now in session I think it would be
best to use the social networking capabilities to make your voice heard. The
link below gives you the information so you can take action with Facebook,
Twitter, and other methods.
