As mentioned in the previous email I sent out, the November meeting is focused on Location Based Services. We have an exciting agenda that includes Gerry Christenson and David Hose who both will be sure to educate and inspire.

Gerry is currently the founder and CTO of Zoove, an abbreviated dialing mobile direct response marketing service, and was one of the original thought leaders in LBS and E911 when he lead Product Management for Signalsoft. Since then he has become an accomplished author on many books, and co-authored the book ‘Mobile Positioning and Location Management’. He will talk about the evolution of LBS and where he sees the market going. David might be familiar to some, he is currently the Managing Director and Founder of Ideas and Plans, but his background in location services is deep and impressive, he was the Founder and CEO of Signalsoft, and currently works with many LBS companies serving as Chairman of Useful Networks and PublicEarth, a board member at JumpTap and an advisory board member at Rave Wireless, and Networks in Motion. He will join us to talk about the location based services market, but also to talk about the evolutionary path as an entrepreneur.

We will also have two local companies involved in the location based services space. Healthagen who is focused on the healthcare vertical, offering an application called iTriage which gives you access to medical information from over 300 symptoms, 1000 diseases and 350 medical procedures all in the palm of your hands and using location services. Reports from CTIA-IT last month, claimed that Mobile Healthcare applications were getting the most interest as the “next big thing” due to the universal healthcare talk and continued investment in this space. Finally, as promised we will continue to introduce companies that offer “tools” to help simplify the process of creating applications and services for the mobile community. This week, SimpleGeo  will discuss their ready-to-use location infrastructure, enabling application developers to quickly and easily get relevant information about specific locales including (but not limited to) ZIP codes, real-time weather, and geo-tagged media.

I look forward to seeing you all at the next meeting and encourage you to sign-up on the website if you are planning on attending. It makes it easier for us to plan for the event details like refreshments. Until then smile… it’s Monday!

Cheers!

Jason Stout
