Meeting Topic: WebOS and the future of Mobile and the Web

With HP’s recent $1.2B acquisition of Palm Inc., the WebOS platform will continue to evolve within the smatphone and connected mobile devices markets. Palm’s Director of Developer Relations, Dion Almaer, will discuss Palm/HP, WebOS, and the future of Mobile and the Web.

Dion has been writing rich web applications from the beginning, has been fortunate enough to speak around the world, and has published many articles, a book, and his Blog at almaer.com/blog. Dion is the co-founder of Ajaxian.com, the leading source of the Ajax community. Prior to Palm, Dion was the Director of Developer Tools at Mozilla and the Open Web Advocate at Google. Dion is also a TechStars mentor.

  “ Excellent topic, excellent speakers. I was less interested in non-Palm dev efforts, so I felt too much time was devoted to this. It was relevant, but it could have been limited to the role of the Home Brew, and what the future holds in the face of HP's acquisition. ”

  “ Great attendance. Presentation was educational but I'd suggest one potential change in "structure" to keep folks engaged. I'd suggest that we divide up presentations into two sections - a high-level more general section on the front end and then a more technical / developer section on the back-end (of course only when this type of content exists). This would allow for a formal break in the action, where non-developers could leave the meeting before we start flashing code samples and technical stacks on the screen. Just my 10 cents. ”
